HASTINGS CLASS IN ECONOMICS. About thirty students attended the opening class in the preliminary course of Economics, held in the Tribune Buildings. Hastings, last night, under the auspices of the Workers’ Educational Association. Mr. D. Ritchie, of Havelock North, late lecturer in Economics nt Hie Victoria College. Wellington. prefaced his lecture by giving a brief outline of the W.E.A. movement in the Old Country from its inauguration until the time it became recognised and supported by all the universities in England. In' the lecture proper, which lasted over an hour and was listened to with close .attention, by the students, he dealt with definitions and quoted and explained interpretations given by different authorities. At its conclusion about- half an hour was devoted to asking and answering questions. The second lecture will be given next Thursday night. It is a matter for congratulation that the Hastings centre is so fortunate as to have the services of such an able and efficient tutor and lecturer as Mr. Ritchie. The success of the class is now assured.. "
