PROSECUTION BY HEALTH
INSPECTOR
DAIRYMAN FINED £3O
At the Napier Magistrate's Court today, Mr. R. W. Dyer presiding, the Health Inspector proceeded against Christopher Cleary, who pleaded guilty to selling milk adulterated with water on May 19th. .... i £ j Mr. F. B. Gardiner said the defendant was a dairyman supplying the Napier Dairy. Tiie test had showed that the milk had contained 9 per cent added water. ~ ~ Mr. Wood, for defendant, said the happening was unfortunate. Defendant was a very old resident, and he (Mr. Wood) could vouch for his honesty. Defendant’s milk had always been very satisfactory at the dairy. Defendant had been very surprised to receive the summons, and could only account for it by explaining that- immediately milkipg was finished water w»s run through the milking machine to clean it. It was thought that one of defendant’s children must have left the milk can under the machine while the water was run through. A fine of £3O, with costs 17,6, was inflicted.
