THE AGRICULTURAL CONFERENCE.
HAWKE’S BAY REMITS
Mr. A. Al. Retemeyer, secretary of the H.B. A. and P. Society who returned from the amjual conference in Wellington, on Saturday, stated this morning that all tfie Hawke’s Bay remits had been passed with the exception of the one concerning the rook pest. The conference had turned the remit, down as they thought it was too drastic. At the same time the conference were of opinion that a check on the spread of rooks was required. Other remits discussed and carried: (I) Expressed an opinion that it was undesirable that Indian coolies should be admitted into New Zealand free of duty and, (S) that a demonstration judging exhibition at agricultural shows with the object of educating the younger men was desirable. An important niatter discussed was that referring to outside markets. It was finally decided to appoint two from the conference to act with two delegates from each of the Farmers’ Union and Sheepowners’ Council, these six forming a committee to confer with the Board of Agriculture and gain further information as to outside markets, and take whatever action they consider necessary. ■
