QUEENSLAND DELEGATES.
SIR R. PHILP’S PARTY. QUESTION OF STATUS. London, May 17. By a coincidence the Queensland delejation, led by Sir Robert Philp, and the Premier. Air. Theodore, have arriv ed simultaneously. Sir Robert Philp, whose delegation, it is understood, proposes to protest to the British Government against certain actions of the Queensland Government, the principal of which are the Queensland Government’s land legislation and the appointment of Mr. Lennon as Lieutenant-Governor, has not, so far, arranged an interview with the Colonial Oitiee. which is inclined to question his status. MR. THEODORE’S OPINION. London, May 18. Referring to Sir Robert Philp’s delegation, Air. Theodore, in an interview after his landing this morning, remarked that he did not know the nature of their visit, or hoiv they intended to approach the Colonial Office. “I presume,” he added; “that the right method would be through me. 1 understand that English pastoral investors intend laying their views before me.” Air. Theodore was not ready to mention the total of the loan he intends to ask for, but will consult with the experts immediately. IMPARTIAL PROTECTION OF INVESTORS. London, Alay 27. Mr. Bert iedale Keith, writing in connection with Queensland Labour enactments, suggests that the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council provide:, the nucleus of an Arbitration CoUneil of the highest standing for impartiality, as it includes Dominion Judges. British investors would benefit by substituting the present precarious possibility ot disallowance of legislation unfairly affecting their rights by an assurance of impartial determination of compensation due them owing to a change in the terms of their contracts with overseas Governments.—A. and N.Z.
