SAFE SMASHERS.

DISAPPOINTED BURGLARS

Hawera, March 15. Some time between Saturday night and early this morning the safe of Purser and Sons’, furniture shop was blown open by some high explosive inserted through the keyhole, which was ignited by means of a fuse. A featherstuffed cushion was placed over the keyhole which muffled the sound of the explosion. The inner section of the door was wrenched off and the bolts and door blown open. The burglars did the work in vain for it happened to be that- no money was in the safe. The police have the matter in hand.
