(Own Correspondent.) The ordinary monthly meeting -of the Town Board was held this week, all the members being present, Mr. G. Mac Kay occupying the chair. The clerk of the Patangata County Council wrote stating that owing, to his assistant being absent on sick leave the accounts for the town area could not at present be furnished. The estimated value of the gasworks and plant for the Government Statistician was furnished and notices re the Saturday weekly halfholiday for 1920 was forwarded to the Secretary of Labour for gazetting. After considerable discussion on the gas maker’s report, itswas resolver? that the chairman - procure an ex pert plumber to repair thoroughly the gas holder top, when it is hoped, with the present quality of . benzoline, to check the leakage and loss and maintain the present high standard of light, and by the coming year put tne account, in. credit. It was also decided to combine the present separate and special rates to. make one gas separate rate, and to open a separate gas account at the bank. It. was' also found necessary, owing to the highly inflated price of benzoline, to make a slight, increase in the rates. The pay sheet to the amount'of £35 was passed, the overdraft showing as £2Ol 19/5. Against this there is a Government subsidy' to collect and certam outstanding rates. One tender only, was received for the Town Board .lease for one year, £lO 40/6, and tjiis was accepted. ... . .'instructions were given as to letting the Town Hall and the-provid-ing of extra seating accommodation when required. The agreement w'ith the band for the use of the hall supper room as a practice room at a rental of £1 per year and 2/- per month for gas was approved.
