CAPE-CAIRO FLIGHT.
SECRET PREPARATIONS. THREE MACHINES LEAVE. (Received 6, 8.55 a.m.) London, Feb. 5. There is great secrecy in the preparations for the Cairo to Cape flight. It is now known that three aeroplanes have started, including Captains Broome and Cockerell, formerly Air Force officers, who have reached Heliopolis. Colonel van Byneveld and Lieutenant Brand are aboard a Vickers machine, identical with Sir. Ross Smith’s. They left Brooklands yesterday. Lieutenants F. S. Cotton and .W. A. Townsend, both Australians, are aboard a D.H. 14, which left Hendon yesterday, and left Lympo this morning It is understood that Major Brackley is almost ready to start aboad a TJandley-Page machine.—(A. and N.Z.) [A cable on 24th January stated that Captains Broome and Cockerill, aboard a Vickers airplane similar to Sir Ross Smith's, left Brooklands, attempting to fly.to Capetown.]
