SIR EDMUND BARTON. FIRST FEDERAL PREMIER. Sydney. Jan. 7. The death is announced of Sir Edmund Barton. G.C.M.G.. P.C., Order of Rising Sun (Japan), K C-, M.A.

The Rt. Hon. Si- Edmund Barton was the Senior Puisne Judge of the High Court of Australia. He was bcm in 18:9. He was Sneaker of the Legislative Assembly 1883-87. M.L.Q 1887-91. Attorney-General for New South Wales 1891-93. Leader of Federal Convention 1 a 97. Leader N.S.W. Onnosition 1893-99, J.eader of delegation to London with the Commonwealth Bill. He was Prime Minister and Minister for External Affairs of the first Federal Cabinet.
