Sir Robert Stout, who caught a chill recently, is still confined to bed. His condition is not serious. Mr. A. L. Beattie, J.P., has now quite recovered from an attack of influenza. Mr. A. J. Mountfort, District .Surveyor for Canterbury-, has received notice of his transfer to Mongonui, North Auckland. The Mayor of Dunedin, Mr. J. J. Clark, was married to Miss, Joy Mowat yesterday afternoon.—Press Association. Mr. Ernest- Bagley, brother-in-law of Mrs. H. W. Thompson, and who is well known in Napier and Hastings, died at Auckland last week from, influenza. . The name qf Miss. May- Rhynu, iwas omitted from the list of Hastings District High School pupils who obtained proficiency- certificates in connection with the school examinations. The following officers are passengers by the Makura :—Lieut.-Colonel E. A. H. Russell, Majors A. H. James, A. V. Richardson, G. Burrell, Captains C. A. Brewster-Joske, R. B. Burrell, C. S. Geddis (of Napier). N. R. Gregg, G. W. B. Martin, E. E. Plucknett, E. T. Penfold, Lieuts. S. Barnes, and E. J. Martinsen. The death is announced from Palmerston North of Mr. A. M. Sneddon, a well-known ■ business man of that town. His death came as a great shock as he had been enjoying the best of health. With a kind anil cheery disposition, he made many friends in Auckland, Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa, and Manawatu districts., where he was well-known. Mr. Walter Mason, who died at the Emergency Hospital, Hastings, on Saturday last, of influenza, contracted while discharging his duties as hospital orderly at that institution, was the eldest son o£ the lato Mr. R. H. Mason, and grandson of the late Mr. Thomas Mason, Taita, Wellington, and of the late Mr Freeman R. Jackson, bi Wanganui. Mr Ewan Mfilonald, wife of Annie McDonald. Napier South, whose death announced yesterday, was a brother of Mrs. C. E. Twist, of Greenmeadows, and sixth son of Mr Duncan McDonald, farmer, Otago. Deceased had been in the coachbuilding business at Taradale, Napier and Port Ahuriri. His illness was brief. Deepest sympathy is felt for his sorrowing widow and two children.
