ENTERTAINMENTS.
“ TURN TO THE RIGHT.” This evening, at the Hastings Municipal Theatre, Messrs. J. & N. Tait! will present their new Comedy Company in the delightful comedy, “ Turn to the Right, ” by Winchell Smith and John L. Hazzard. Exceptionally favourable reports of this play have preceded it, and as the company is said to be a particularly strong one, theatregoers will! no doubt extend a glad welcome to both! play and players, in three acts, with a’, prologue, ‘‘Turn to the Right” has; been described as a play of mirth and! morals, with a sensible and solid plot! full of natural sentiment and brim full of clean wholesome humour. The scene j of the prologue is a pawnshop where. Joe Bascom, under the name of “Pete,” meets his prison pals Muggs and Gilly. “Pete” has just been released from Sing Sing prison, where he had been committed for a crime he was not guilty of. Joe Bascom tells his pals that he has ■ determined to turn th the right and! return to his mother in the country, ■ who is not aware that he has been in j prison. The first act shows the return of Joe and the accidental meeting in his mother’s house of Muggs and Giliy. As 1 the play proceeds it shows how the two crooks assist Mrs. Bascom in getting out of her financial difficulties, and how they are reformed by the sweet old mother. Of laughter there is good and plenty, and the wholesome sentiment is cleverly interwoven in the situations, j ! which leave never a dull moment from • rise to fall of the curtain. The scenei-y ; and stage effects are said to be excepi tionally fine, and the producer (Mr. ‘ f Gaston Mervale) is credited with having I achieved some wonderful effects. The [cast includes Messrs. Walter P. Rich- ! ardson, John Junior, Stapleton Kent, i Vincent Dennis, and Miss Margaret Cal- ! vert, all of whom make their first ap- ! pearance in Hastings. Other -wellknown artists who will make their reappearance are Miss Lizette Parkes, Eilsen Sparke, Francee Anderson, Marie Collier, and Messrs.
