The final figures will not be available until to-morrow. The referendum polling proceeded steadily with a complete absence oi excitement. The “Age" publishes a sensational account of a supposed attempt to t assassinate Mr. Hughes, who has recently received over a hundred threatening letters. A quantity of cotton waste and grease was found, but their timely discovery prevented damage. A German has been arrested in connection with these fires.
