TENNIS AND CROQUET.
The Hastings Lawn Tennis Club’s lawns were formerly opened for the ensuing season on Saturday. The preshUnt, Mr. G. Ebbett, performed the opening ceremony, briefly addressing those present and ex-t«nd-’ng a hearty welcome to the visiting players. The lawns were looking exceptionally well, and the large number present thoroughly enjoyed the day’s pleasure. During an interval in the play, afternoon tea and refreshments were served. TAKAPAU CROQUET AND TENNIS CLUB. (Own Correispondent.) Mr. XV. Hobson, vice-president, presided at the annual general meeting of members of the Takapau Croquet and Tennis Club, held in the Public Library, on Friday evening. The balance-sheet was received and showed that there was a debit balance of £3 odd. The following officers were elected President, Mr. Sydney Johnston ; vice-presidents, Messrs J. B. A’Deane, W. Hobson, XV. Ellingham and J. Maudsly; committee, Mesdames Caughley, Russell, A. Saunders. Miss Thorne, XV. Cuthberston and J. Caughley ; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. F- Grigg. It was decided, if the lawns could be put in order in the time, to have the opening dav on XVednesday November Bth. It was decided to get the lawn mowers put in order and to purchase a “green” mower. X T ery little interest was taken in the games last season, but, as there will'"be a considerable number of new players.and. members this year the club promises to meet with more fuccega.
