HIDES. Melbourne, Aug. 10. Hides, light kips very’ firm, heavies unchanged, fair supplies. SOUTHERN MARKETS. Christchurch, Aug. 10. The provision made in th© Appropriation Act for an increased duty on Australian wheat and flour, if necessary, to prevent unfair competition during the war, has given satisfaction to "wheat growers and those interested in the wheat and flour trades. The market has not yet shown any signs of resuming its normal tone, as there is still some uncertainty about Australian prices. Oats are very firm and scarce. There has been a little better demand for chaff, ouing to the wet weather. The potato market is still somewhat unsett.ed. Most of the sales are being made between merchants, who are turning over purchases made during the recent decline. Prices offered at country stations are £6 5/- to £6 10/- per ton. DOMINION EXPORTS. Wellington, Aug. 10. New Zealand produce entered for export last week was valued at £554,191, including butter £6246, cheese £87,699, frozen meat £139,214, gold £24,849, grain £16,154, hides £19,659, kauri gum £17,609, tallow £21,031. wool £204,705. The total value of the exports for the first six months of the current year was £20,388,679, an increase of £2,618,479 ou the corresponding period of last year. LONGLANDS STOCK SALE. Hoadley, Son and Stewart, Ltd., report offering average yardings of sheep and cattle at the Longlands saleyards yesterday’ to a fair attendance of buyers. Cattle were dull of sale, but sheep met with a brisk demand, highest prices ruling being obtained. The firm report the following sales:—Cows and heifers in profit and to calve £9 10/-, £8 12/6, £8 2,6, £7 13'-, £8 11/-, £7 10/-, 8 21-vear forward steers £ll, 3 fat cows £lO 12/-, 1 empty heifer £6, 1 empty cow £5 7/6, 1 cow and calf £6 10/-, 1 empty heifer £4 12/6, 5 fat steers £l5 10/-, 42 fat ewes 29/9, 193 f. and f. ewes 25/6, at 27/-, 12 lambs 25/-, 146 m.s. hoggets 22/7, 289 ewes in lamb 32/7, 100 f. and f. ewes 25/1, 4 store wethers 20/-.
