Monthly Meeting.

(Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the council was held on July 7th. Present, L. McKay (chair), J. Holden, M. Paulsen, 1,. Glennv, J. Mclntyre, H. Wilkie, A. Cook. CORRESPONDENCE. From Under Secretary, Public Works Department, notifying that eertuin roads in Otawhao block are non county roads.—Department to be asked to put in good order before handing over. At present the roads were much cut up. From Chief Surveyor, forwarding plans of College road deviation approved.- —Platts approved. From Sainsbury, Logan and Wjllianis in .reference to legalising College road. —Received.

From State Advances Office notifying that College road loan of £4OO is granted and forwarding debentures for execution. — Chairman and acting treasurer to complete same, From Commissioner Crown Lands, n-king council to permit a Government s tr er to engage in heavy traffic. — I m-mission griftited subject to oversapproval as to size of loads. From Commissioner of Crown Lands, forwarding schedule of accrued thirds. —Received. Under-Secretary Lands Department re State-assistance iu tree planting and enclosing schedule of prices of young trees. —Received. Members requested to be furnished with copy of prices. | G. E. Smith, asking permission to split firewood on roads, Takapau.—No permission can he given. | Chairman National Recruiting Board re National register and registration cards. —Action of chairman in engaging services of Mr. White, a returned trooper, at £1 per day confirmed. From Acting-Resident Engineer with recommendations re Fletcher’s Crossing bridge.—Received. . Hawke’s Bay War Relief Association with form of application to transfei money in hand for Wounded Soldiers Fund. —Form to be filled m and moneys transferred. Same supplying rules or the association.—Received. „„ m ~ Secretary General Post Office re/mail service from Waipawa to Onga Onga, and to Tikokino, stating that alternative tenders are to be invited at the termination of the present /erm from Waipawa and Waipukurau respectively. From A. Knight asking for attention to drain near his property on ArgyllOtane road. —Overseer was given power to deal with the master. . From H. B. Lusk re Waipukurau Traffic Bridge Commission— Suggestions turned down. The chairman observed that as a result of conversations of representatives of local bodies interested he saw no hope of a compromise and would recommend that a commission be set up. The suggestion was agreed to. _ , From Orirondville Town Board, offering to guarantee £lOO in connection with over-bridge stipulated for by Railway Departmnt re Manawatu bridge and road deviation. The Danne virke County Council also wrote, assuring that £l5OO would be for the same and offering to contribute half of any further amount that may be required to complete the work. It was recommended that the overseers of the Waipawa and Dannevirke Councils iointly prepare an estimate of the co of the work and furthermore that the Government be asked to supply the estimate bf an overhead bridge. From E. N. Knapp re telephone account. —Received. ‘ __ . , The overseer reported:—That late heavv rains had necessitated an ext [a amount of patching in the whole» county and on his recommendations the following works were authorised: 200 vards S of metal on Argyll-Otane road and patching between the Waipawa Borough boundary and the Otane Tow n District; 500 extra yards oi metal o the South Makaretu road. Minoi natching and repairs throughout the county were also authorised as also an estimated amount of £4lO for- wrUplanting in connection with protection W01 ‘ kS ‘ ESTIMATES.

The following estimates w ere adopted for the next 12 months:—W aipav.a riding £l2OO, Hampden riding £1346, Wakarara riding £4lO, riding £845 10/S. ° fifaj 10/-, Cbnton riding £lB4O < /b, ±aaa X sheet amounted to £1663 15/- and the next meeting was airanged for August 4th.
