OFFICIAL REPORT OF THE FICHTINC

ON THE VARIOUS FRONTS

[high commissioneb’s message.] (Received 27, 1.45 p.m.) London, June 26, 1.45 p.m. Official.—lntense artillery preparation on Saturday was followed yesterday by a substantial advance of our infantry from the Vai area to the Sette Comuni plateau. The enemy withdrew rapidly before our attacks, though they resisted at some points. In the Vai area we took Baossi and the strongly fortified slopes south-west of Monte Menerle. The enemy blew up the bridge at Fonti and fired Adate Stannastaineri. On the Posina-Antico line, the enemy, beginning an advance down the Posina valley, was driven into the head of the ravines of Monte Bruche. The greatest progress is on the right flank, where Priaforo is occupied. Our forces are pushing towards the outskirts of Arsiero. At Sette Comuni plateau we have occupied the northern slopes of Mounts Busibollo,' Belmonte, Pannooclo, Barco and Cengio, south-west of the line Mount Longara-Gallio-Asiago-Cosuna, where we are established. North-east of the plateau we have captured Mounts Cimone, Casteliaro and Della Contesse; to the westward, Cimadio Aldiera. On the whole front the enemy trenches are full of corpses, quantities of arms and ammunition, food and material. Sharp fighting is continuing. On the Carnio-Isonzo front, there is artillery fire. In the valley the enemy’s trenches are severely damaged by explosions and fires.
