The Russiaus have penetrated Transylvania.
A Rumanian citizen has been appointed Mayor of Czemowitz and oftier Bukowina towns, the Russians favouring the Rumanians.
Vienna, June 26.
An Austrian communique states: —Our troops in the Bukowina occupied new positions between Kimpolung (near the Rumanian frontier) and Hakobini.
We evacuated the heights south of Berhometh (30 miles south-west of Czernowitz) and Vishnitz, without enemy interference.
OPERATIONS ON THE RIVER STYR.
ENEMY FALLINp BACK
Petrograd, June 26. A communique states: —We carried a redoubt by a coup-de-main three versts south of Zminy on the Styr, and bayonetted the garrison after a fierce resistance, capturing two heavy guns.
Many German attacks on this front were repulsed. The enemy is falling back owing to his growing losses. We captured 800 unwounded prisoners, half of whom were Germans, with 15 machine-guns. The enemy’s trenches were filled with heaps of corpses and men suffering from bayonet wounds.
GERMAN OFFENSIVE SOUTH OF VILNA.
London, June 26
“ The Times’ ” correspondent at Petrograd says that, despite obstinate German attacks south of Smorgon (south-east of Vilna), Russian military authorities do not consider that they are intended as an attempt to pierce their line. It is believed that the German forces are inadequate, while time will not permit the methods employed at Vilna.

A GERMAN REPORT
(Received 27, 1.55 p.m.) London, June 26
Fighting, m which we are successful, is proceeding westward of Sofia! and near Zaturcy 'between Lutsk and Vladimir Volviisk). Since the 16th inst. General von Linsingen has taken prisoner u.ooo, and captured two guns and 54 machine guns.
