Heavy Firing Around Dixmude

The ” Telegraaf ” reports heavy artillery firing, equalling in intensity the big Yser battles, is heard in the direction of Dixmude. It continued all day without a second’s silence. Paris, Aug. to. A communique says: - Two German attacks with petards northwards of Souchez railway station were thrown hack. Our curtain of fire stripped a violent attack on our trenches at Croix 1 eescarmes. A German communique states: —We destroyed the enemy’s newlv-const ructed bridge at Dammerkirke and shot down a captive balloon westward of Verdun. \Ve compelled a French aeroplane to descend southward of Muelsicim, and captured the pilot and observer.
