WAIPUKURAU BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The adjourned meeting or the above body was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday evening. Present: — Messrs. J. 'Winloxe (Minor). W. A. Chambers. .1. \\ ar rein W. Studdari, G. Smales. Leave of absence was granted to Cr. E. A. Goodger. CORRESPONDENCE.

From several firms with quotations for the supplv of a Pelton wheel.— The matter was deferred for further information. The Mayor and Cr. Chambers were given jiow to act in the matter.

From Messrs. T. Horton, Ltd., in reply to the council s letter, stating that their representative, Mr. Cook, was awav at present, but that the letter from the council had been forwarded to him, and he would reply direct.--The Mayor stated that Air. Cook would be in Hastings on Tuesday and would be willing to wait on the council whenever called upon. It was resolved that as Arbor Day would be observed on Wednesday next, and the tree planting be done on that day, assisted by the school children, Air. Cook be asked to meet the council on Wednesday.

• From the Wool Brokers’ Association. Napier, re recent agreement to pav portion of cost of formation of new road adjoining sale yards, asking if work had yet been completed and would the council advise ns to total cost, so that, they would know their proportional liability of same.—The clerk was instructed to comply with the request when the, necessary data was available. From the Public Trustee, consenting to the appointment as Commissioner of the sinking Fund as established in connection with the water duplication and Russell Park" loans. From the Public M orks Department, Wellington, with copy of report and plan by resident engineer. of Waipukurau traffic bridge repair.—ln receiving the same, the Alayor thought a large expenditure was not justified at present, _ on account of the renewal of the bridge at no distant date. He was in favour of the appointment of a commission, as the old agreement had now expired. Other local bodies interested should be consulted in the matter, and he would suggest that a conference between the chairmen of the Waipawa, Waipukurau, and Patangata County Councils and this council be held at Waipukurau on Tuesday week with the view of appointing a commission to embrace all other local bodies interested. —In answer to Cr. Chambers, the Alayor stated he, on behalf of the council, had undertaken to have the span at the Waipukurau end of the bridge temporarily stayed and that the Waipawa County Council would undertake the staying of the other end. —The Mayor’s action was confirmed. and Air. E. Gilbertson was appointed to superintend the work. The overseer's report of work done during the month was read and adopted. The report stated, inter alia, that the road leading to the English Church required attention; that a new culvert was necessary at the gate leading into Air. 'Wallace’s property. —The first is to bo inspected by the council before the work is gone' on with. In the second matter it was decided to notify the owner of the properly accordingly. Cr. Smales brought forward the matter of the bad state of the Bed ford Terrace road, the accumulation of water in the water channels, from which there appeared to be no outlet ; and also the question of reformation and improvement at top end of road leading from Terrace to the main thoroughfare by way of Hoiisemann’s and King’s properties. —The council decided, after consultation with the overseer, that an inspection he made and necessary improvements be done as far as possible. The question of top-dressing Russell Park was brought up, and it was resolved that as the borough teams and employees were fully occupied metalling and doing other work at present within the borough, the topdressing, instead of being completed this season, iI ever a number
