H.B. HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The Hawke’s Bay Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met yesterday afternoon. Present: Air. AA . Shrimpton (chairman). Hon. J. D. Ormond, Airs. W. Fossev, Messrs. F. Moeller, W. Ilan, J. A. Miller and f. Mason Chambers. Messrs. (’r'liiliy, ami Hill were granted leave of alisem-e. FINANCE C 'OMAHTT ’EE'S REPORT. The Finance. Committee recommended that vouchers amounting to £1432 7/5 be passed for payment : that no recommendation be mad? regarding the application of the Hawke’s Bay Fanners’ Co-opera-tive Association for. increased, prices for certain groceries supplied by them under : that the salary of the dispenser he increasefl to £l9O a .year. The committee also reported that the ordinary account snowed a credit of £1315 I.!), and the building account an overdraft of £3OOO. —A dop t ed.
DISTRICT NURSE QUESTION. A committee, consisting of the chairman, Airs. Fossey and Air. Aloeller. recommended that a district nurse, he appointed for a. term of one year. The chairman said the whole question was whether the board, in the present state of its finances, .should ’make the appointment. Air. T. Mason Chambers said that, in view of the state of the finances, rhe matter migat well be left for another occasion—it could be nostponed for six months. Mrs. Fossey said.it, was absolutely necessary that assistance should be available in maternity cases, where the people could not afford to pay the usual £3 3'- a week. Air. Aliller supported the committee’s recommendation. Air. Hart opposed the recommendation. and said he would like to have full particulars of how the scheme was working in other districts before it was decided upon here. Ho had that day signed a form of application for a maternity bonus, and they could wait and see how that worked. I\lr. Ormond said he know of no provision for that. Consideration deferred for six months.
! At a later stage in the meeting, Air. Hart explained that the bonus he was referring to was a provident , affair. GENERAL. | The health inspector (Mr. F. B. Gardiner) reported that 19 cases of infectious disease bad been notified, ithe incidence being as follows: — [Napier Borough (diphtheria 4, tuberculosis 4) 8, Hastings Borough (diphtheria) L County (diphtheria) 1! ■ There had been three deaths from , tuberculosis and one from diphI theria.—Received. [ The visiting committee reported That everything at the hospital was satisfac-ory. | The usual monthly reports from ’various officials were received. | The Friendly Societies Council asked the board to appoint a deputation to meet them in regard to their financial position. —Left in the hands of the Finance Committee. I The Hospitals Department made suggestions regard the compilation of statistics and keeping of books, etc., and offered to do certain work. —Offer declined. The secretary advised that 1646 outdoor rations had been issued during last month as compared withi 1578 in June. It was decided to call applicn-l tions for the position of honorary opthalrnie surgeon.
