PERSONAL.

Mr. and Mrs Scott, of Gisborne, arrived in Napier this morning. Mr. Charles Lewis, of MakarW. n, is at present visiting Christchurch Mr. English, examiner for the R.A.M.. arrived in Napier last even ing.

The Rev. Robertshawe and Miss Robertshawe are staving at the Ma sonic Hotel. Napier.

Mr. E. J. Walshe. of Napier, who had been ailing for some time past from a bad form of heart disease, died at an early hour this morning. Mr. Al. Lascelles, formerly of Hastings and now of Petone, has arrived in Hastings to conduct, the anniversaiy services of the Stortford Mission Hall. Mr. H. Norman Liardet, General Manager of the Oceanic Accident and Guarantee Corporation, who has been <m a visit to Napier and Hastings. left for Wellington this morn ing.

Lieutenant Commander Brown, Late of H.M.S. Torch, has succeec.ed Commander Newton as Navi.i Intelligence Officer at Wellington Commander Newton will accompany the Expeditionary Force. ■An old and greatly respected resident of Hawke’s Bay, in the person of Mr. Horace Baker, died at Napier yesterday at the age of 66. The de ceased gentleman arrived in Napier in 1875. and was at one time, chief surveyor for Napier and Gisborne, and later Commissioner of Crown Lands at Napier. Much sympathy is extended to his widow and relatives.

The following passengers have hooked by the Westralia. which sails for northern ports to-night:—For Gisborne : Misses Martin and Wheeldon : Mesdames Noble Campbell, Lunn and Blair, Mr. and Mrs. de Wharo ; and Messrs. Ross. Skinner. Hutchison, Sung, Clarkson, and Quigley. For Auckland : Mesdames Horn, Dr. Todd, Cesborn ’and Walker ; Messrs. Scott, Norton, Taylor, and Davies. For Tokomaru Bay: Sister Dalgairns, Mrs. Holloway and infant, and Messrs. Elliott and Denholm.
