BELGIAN WIDOWS AND CHILDREN FOR NEW ZEALAND.
Sir.—Mr. Holman, the Labour Premier of New South Y\ ales, has announced that the Government agrees to take two thousand Belgian and French women refugees whose husbands have fallen in the war. 1 respectfully beg to suggest that we New Zealanders should also cjifer to receive some of these refugee widows here, who are used to domestic duties and farm life. May i also suggest that those here who could welcome and accommodate one. refugee widow for a month or longer should hand in their names to the editor of this journal or send direct to the Premier or member for the electorate. In this way the Government would be guided if they make an offer to receive refugees. The question of bringing out Belgian refugees is to be brought up at the next meeting of the North Canterbury Farmers Inion. Our New Zealand troopships, on their return trip, could bring back refugees. Our Bible constantly states that our duty is to care for the widow and the fatherless. Thanking you, Sir, in anticipation, 1 am. etc.. A NEW ZEALANDER.
