POLITICAL NOTES
[BY TET '”H—srECUL.I Wellington. Sept. 23. Yesterday was an interesting clay in Parliament. First there was the Prime Minister’s statement that there would be no postponement ot the elections. Now that the uncertainty as to the date has been removed, it may be expected that party warfare will be resumed in earnest, and probably the last has been seen of the so-called ‘ truce/’ Another interesting but regret table phase of yesterday's sitting was the unfortunate incident be tween the Attorney General (Hon. A. L. Herdman) and Mr. G. W. Russell, who made uncomplimentary remarks about each other. Mr, Massey advised both members to withdraw the expressions, but whilst Mr. Herdman took tais advice and withdrew his statement, which was obviously not intended to be taken literally or seriously. Mr. Russell did not follow the good example, but contented himself with saying that he had made no personal reflection on the Minis ter.
The Premier states that arrangements can be made for sufficient ships with refrigerating space to take all the season’s produce Home. The committee appointed to deal with the matter has been granted ten davs’ extension of time.
The Lands Committee, in report on the question of tenure of education reserve leases, recommends that legislation be introduced providing uniform tenure for tenants of such leases.
