Messrs. Joseph Nathan and Co. control two dried milk factories in Belgium, and have completed the building of another between Amiens anil Paris. The last reports to hand on the 25th August were that these buildings had not been damaged by the. Germans. The French Government are drawing their supplies of dried milk and Glasco from the Belgian factories for the men at the front.
The brilliant star Venus now appearing in the south-western diree tion, has caused considerable con sternation among some of the resi dents, who have mistaken it for a Zeppelin. Mr. A. G. Fulford, who has been indisposed of Tate owing to a severe attack of influenza and a bad back, is now progressing favourably. Mrs. and Miss Minnie Waterhouse left by the mail train last Tuesday en rente for Greymouth, via Christchurch, bn a holiday. The fruit trees are now m full bloom and present a splendid appearance. There is an exceptionally fine show of blossoms on all varie ties.
