PLUNKET NURSES.

TO HELP MOTHERS AND SAVE THE CHILDREN. THE FIELD THE SOCIETY WORKS IN.

The dots with an outside circle show the Central Branches from which Plunket Nurses are sent out, on stated i.’.-.ys, ' to Branches not employing a resident Nurse. The Non-residential Brandies of the Society are shown by plain black dots. The above map discloses the strong grip the Society for the Health of Women and Children has upon the infant life of both islands. There is hardly a town of importance but what has its trained Plunket nurse to help the mothers by advice and he p to give their infants a chance not only in many cases of life, but also of becoming strong and healthy men and women. It is a great work that Dr. Truby King has organised and established—a work which will do a great deal towards enabling the British race to retain its supremacy in the Southern Pacific. The steady growth of the society is manifested in the above diagram. The great majon y of the branches shown have come into existence during the last two years, arid most of these have established Plunket nurses, many of them in the course of the last year. There are at present twenty-seven nurses at work throughout the Dominion, an tle following is a list of the residential centres from which they operate. The figures in parenthesis indicate the number of nurses a the centres named: —• North Island.—Auckland (2), Dannevirke (1), Gisborne (I), (1), Hawera (1), tNapier (1), Rotorua (1), Taihape (1), Wanganui (1), Wellington (3). .
