HASTINGS MUNICIPAL THEATRE.

ARCHITECT’S APPOINTMENT. At last night’s meeting of the Hastings Borough Council, the following conditions relating to the appointment of Air. H. E. White as architect for the Municipal Theatre, were adopted : — (1) The architect is to prepare plans comprising full detailed drawings, specifications, and estimates for a municipal theatre having a seating capacity for 1350 persons. _ (2) Preliminary plans and outline of proposed building are to be in the hands of the council within one month from the date of appointment of the architect. (3) The contract, specifications and estimates are to be submitted to the council within six weeks from the date of notice of the approval of the. preliminary drawings. (4) The total cost of the building including furnishings, lighting, architect’s fees, clerk of works’ salary, etc., shall not exceed the sum of .£13.000. (5) The appointment of clerk of works shall be made subject to the approval of the council. (6) Upon receiving instructions front the council, the architect shall call for tenders for the carrying out of the work and shall be in attendance upon the council when such tenders are considered, on a date to be fixed by the council and architect. (7) The architect shall supply the contractor, whose tender shall be accepted, with a copy of the plans and full detail drawings and specifications in clause 1 hereof and also from time to time with all necessary information required for the proper carrying out of the work. (8) The signed contract, drawings and specifications shall be lodged in the Borough Council offices, and shall remain the absolute property of the council. These plans, etc., shall be supplied in the commission pavable under clause 9. (9) The fees payable to the architect shall be as follows For preparing contract, plans and specifications including preliminary sketches, 2) per cent ; for general superintendence exclusive of clerk of works, St per cent; contractors, etc. for use of copies of plans, specifications, and detail drawings (payable by the contractor), lit per cent. (10) During the porgress of the works the architect shall at his own expense, visit the works for inspection purposes at least once a fortnight during the progress thereof. (11) Samples of all inside furnishings, are to be submitted to the council, and the council reserves the right of rejecting any or all of such furnishings. (12) The responsibility for the proper and efficient carrying out of the work must rest with the architect. (13) In all other respects the architect shal bo bound by the regulations of the New Zealand Institute ‘ of Architects.
