Hislop, of Wellington. The death is announced at Hawera of an old colonist. Mr. James M illiamson. who saw stirring times. He arrived in the Dominion sixty - two years ago. forty of which he spent principally in -farming at Kakaramea.

Mr. H. P. Halley, who is duel steward of the new ferry steamer Wahine, is well-known to regular travellers between Lyttelton and Wellington. He was in charge of the fitting out oT the Maori when she came out from the Clyde in 1907, and was chief steward of that vessel for several years.

Mr. Alfred Fraser, town clerk of Foxton for fourteen years, was the recipient of a handsome souvernir from the Mayor and councillors before severing his connection with the borough. In addition to being town clerk, Sir. Fraser also filled the positions of councillor and Mayor before he took office.

Last Monday night. Miss A. M. Rodger, one of the most able and conscientious teachers in the service of- the Otago Education Board, died somewhat suddenly. Deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. James Rodger, a well-known contractor, and the sister of the board s truant officer. She was appointed mistress at Moray Place, Dunedin, in Fel> ruary. 1909. and held that responsible post till her death.
