| PLUNKET SHIELD. Wellington, Nov. 19. At a meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association to-night it was deckled to challenge Auckland to play for the Plunket Shield at Auckj land on January Ist and following I days, and that the Auckland AssoI ciation be asked to make the match ;an annual fixture alternately in I Wellington and Auckland. It was decided to inform the Canterbury Association that Auckland had stated that they did not intend to travel this season and that Wellington had offered to go there if Auckland accented. Wellington could not play nt Christchurch on January 17th, isth and 20th, and therefore rei quested Canterbury to play at Wel- : lington on those dates. j THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM. i i Auckland, Nov. 19. The Australian cricketers, comprising ten of the team which has toured England and America, are on board the Marama, which called at Auckland to-day. SOUTH MELBOURNE TOURING TEAM. Wellington, Nov. 19. Mr..A. A. George has received by cable the following authentic list of players who will represent the South Melbourne Cricket Club in the tour cl New Zealand, commencing next month :—Trott, Giller, Scott. Kenny, McCormick, Kyle, Pentland, Purvis. Deas. Kelly, Sykes. Gray and Buragwanath. Mr. George to-day received a letter fiom Mr. Harry Trott, captain of the team, and from Mr. W. McCormack, secretary of the club, regarding the personnel of the team. After dealing with the strong points of each player. Mr. Trott says:— •'We have a strong side to play in New Zealand. With myself the above make eleven of our first eleven. The remaining places will probably be made up from our second eleven, sc New Zealanders will be able to judge their form against our best clubs’ elevens.” McCormick writes :—"The team will exceed all expectations. Facey is the only absentee; but as he has already been seen in New Zealand the loss will not be felt so much. I can confidently assure you that such a side could not be got together in Victoria unless it were selected by the V.C.A. from all the clubs.” BENEFIT FOR TRUMPER. Sydney, Nov. 19. The New South Wales Cricket Association is arranging a benefit match for Trumper at the end o! January between New South Wales and Western Australia.
