Frank Wootton is the first Australian horseman to have a mount in the Grand Prix, and his success in the race just decided is highly gratifying to the sportsmen of his native city. The Sydney lad crossed the channel in May last to ride Houli in the Prix la Rochclettc, a classic event for three-year-olds, at the Paris meeting, and he is credited with having ridden a splendid race. He gave his mount time to get on his legs, and indulged some, of his opponents with the lead until well . in the straight, but he had the field safe at the distance, and won' in fine style. Having given the Fienehmen sucli an excellent taste of his quality as a horseman, it r is little wonder that the services of young Wootton were again secured by M. Achille Fould to pilot the colt in the Grand Prix, and the result has been quite satisfactory to both parties. Paisano outjumped Master Thcorv in the hurdle races at Gisborne, but the latter was able to make up the iost ground on the flat. -
