CASUALTIES.
A FATAL SPREE. Te Kuiti, April 10. Early on Sunday morning John Farrell, a settler from the Rangitoto block, was discovered dead in Solomon’s yard at Otoiohanga. -An inquest was opened on Monday and adjourned for a week. Evlder.co showed that deceased got liquor upon the train on Saturday, that he and others had taken liquor to Solomon’s and consumed a considerable quantity. The witnesses’ recollections of further events wore hazy. CHILD SCALDED TO DEATH. Wellington, April 10. Emily Jeffery, aged 19 months, who was severely scalded at her parents’ residence last Monday, died in the hospital this morning. GUN ACCIDENT AT WESTSHORE A lad of 16 years, named Leslie Michin, son of Mr. Michael Michin. fisherman, met with a nasty accident at Westshore on Monday afternoon. While shoot ing with a double-barrel-led fowling piece the gun burst, and one of the youth’s hands was so badly injured that he had to be taken to the hospital, where two fingers were amputated.
