James Gibbons who assaulted Elizabeth Mackenzie at Sydenham, on December 18th. v.ith a razor, inflicted dangerous wounds, was convicted at the Supreme Court this morning of attempted murder. The excuse offered by the accused was that lie was mad with drink, bui th? Judge said drunkenness was not. a disease of the mind. OIL STRUCK AT NO. o BORE. MOTORCA. Now Plymouth. Feb. 13. A flow of 3G barrels a day was struck :tt Xo. o bore early on Sunday morning, and lias been maintained up to tlie present. Tin- strike aas made at the comparatively shallow depth of 2280 feet, and is regarded as the most hopeful thing that has yet happened in connection with local petroleum prospecting. The oil that is being gained from No. 2 well comes from the .3000 ft level, and that from No. 3 well from the .3500 to 1000 feet levels. The output of tin* three Rowing wells is now at the rate of 3G2 barrels or 15.201 gallons a week in its present unrefined state, and v.ith the Government bonus oil is worth 7d a gallon to the local company.
