RU( E'. IN HAYVKE'S BAY. A meeting of supporters of Rugby football was held in the Caledonian Hotel last night. Mr. W. J. Mr(th presiding over a fair attendance. The chairman replied that Management Committee ’ had Hie matter under consideration. Al;-. E. W. Andrews spoke as to the proposal to procure Lc-gan Park, and what wPiild be necessary to prepare the ground L.r playing upon.
Mr. F. Wilson, stated that if the Napier players were not sufiiciotly alive to their own interest then the control oi' the game should be transferred to some other snb-unior. There should, he said, be only one competition for Seniors and Juniors and a third class competition between Napier and Hastings. Mr. A. (A Barnes suggested the.' Napier should form a sub-union. Then tlm Management Comniitte;could control the whole of the dis tricl. AA'hen a Hawke’s Bay representative team travelled each subunion should bear a proportional share of the cost.
Mr. R. T. Bailey also spoke of th? necessity of players rallying round the Management Committee. He was quite prepared to stand down in favour of any other person who would ■be prepared to take active work.
It was resolved that a sub-com-mittce of throe members he set tr> to meet a similar committee from the Hastings Sub-union to draft a scheme for improving Rugby football in Hawke’s Bay to report to a special general meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union to b? field on Tuesday. March 28th, 1912. Messrs Bailey (representing the Management Committee), Aitken and F. AA’i'son (representing the olayers) were the committee selected.
It was also decided (1) “That it. be a recommendation to the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union to commence the game as early as possible ; (2) that it be a recommendation to the Management Committee that an endcavrnr be made to commence Wednesday football (Mr. Corbett promising a cup for competition); (3) that it be ■a recommendation to the Management Committee that all nlavcrs should be classified at the end of each season ; (4) that the headmasters of schools in the Napier district be communicated with in reference to the coaching of scholars in Rugbv football.”
A hearty vote of thanks to the chairman closed the meeting.
