IN REPLY TO MR. WALKER.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir. — Mr. Frank Walker’s letter in the “Daily Telegraph’ ’of yesterday (•alls for (ouiineni. and the comment cannot be too caustic or severe. I say that no true unionist would have gone cap in hand to any capitalist asking for financial assistance. Before doing so any union in difficulties should first ask for assistance from its mother union and secondly from any other kindred unionists. I say. Sir. eniphati.eally. that the request made was a disgrace to the person making it and its acceptance equally shameful. I am creditably infoitned that the request was not made officially by the uniop, and that there is no minute in the books bearing on the matter. The whole thing seems to have been done by two or three officers holding office at that time. They evidently acted without the sanction or knowledge of the Labourers' Union. Unionists, fair Dlnv is bonnv plav.—l am, etc., A.' P. SHEEHAN. Hastings street, Napier, Nov. 22. P.S.- Tlie above letter has been refused insertion by the ‘‘Daily Telegraph.”—A. P. Sheehan.

TO THE EDITOR. Str.—ln this evening’s “Telegraph” Mr. Walker claims the votes ot all Unionists for Mr. Brown, on account of his generosity to a union in financial difficulty. The Labour plrt-tonn is a definite policy which aims at securing the independence of all, widows included. This platform lias been endorsed by the Trades and Labour Council and yet Mr. Walker plead.-, for .support to the candidate who refused to sign it. This means, in short, that we must give up our political independence, and forswear our allegiance to our comrades for the sake of financial assistance rendered three years ago! The pion is almost as remarkable as the fact of its publication in a paper which supports Air. Brown. —I am, etc.,

CHARLES McKENZIE. Burns road. Nov. 21, 1911.
