COMPULSORY MILITARY TRAINING.
TO THE EDITOII. Sir, —In “Pizzaro’s Conquest of Peru” readers w’ill find one of the strongest proofs of the wisdom of training territorials to defend their country. A small band of Spanish soliders conquered Peru, ( took their Inca (King) prisoner and murdered him in cold blood because his ranso.it cf ’gcld and silver did not come in so fast as the wretches wished. The Peruvians had not a .single implement of war with which to defend themselves, or country. AVith this exception they were living under a wdse government, in a state of civilisation appioaching the millennium more than any other nation on earth. I w-ould suggest the Territorials reading this work, more so the opponents of military training. It might calm their religious scruples—very much so our local orator, Air. Stevenson. If not in o,ur local Library, probabl.v the committee would secure a volume or two.—l am, etc.,' ANONYMOUS. Hastings, Nov. Ist, 1911.
