TOO HONEST FOR POLITICS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir.- Mr. H. M. Campbell, the true Libeial candidate for the Hawke’s Bay seat, is—firstly, a man : secondly a man : and finally, a man. Beyond that he is only a candidate. He is not a "politician.” If the electors were politicians, politicians could represent them. But every elector knows himself or herself to be no politician. The average elector is a “plain, straightforward man or woman.” Obviously then he or she needs a plain straightforward man to represent them. Such a man is Mr. 11. M. Campbell. Polities is not a pastime, and we must not elect candidates who spend their time in political evasions and personal abuse. No man or woman would sacrifice common justice and human right to party aspirations. Only politicians do that. No truly democratic man would submit to the tyrannous autocracy —call it by whatever other name we please—of a one man government. And Air. Campbell will riot. The expressed politics of such a man hardly mat ter : for we ail know that Parliament-- ni vt r legislate according to the planks in electoral platforms. But the honesty and integrity of the man matter :t great deal. One honest man is worth a Parliament of politicians. He is the plain straightforward man who deals honestly and squarely with tmy matter coming before the House. -The politician only dials politic-ally with it as the characterless unit of a party. Such men we do hot want i:> a P< ople’s Parliament, if it is te; be a People’s Parliament, and not a Palace for Politicians. AA’e need such, men as Mr. h. Al. Campbell: a man with humanity ; a solid democrat, and a man who will never be less honest than political.— I am. etc., TRUE LIBERAL.
