Mrs. L. K Pegler left Hastings this morning for Christchurch. Mr. Alex. Brooke-Taylor was a passenger for Palmerston this morning.
Mr. George Hunte-}* returned to Hastings from Wamiarania this morning.
Mr. C. L. Mackersey left Hastings this morning for Palmerston North and Wellington. Mr. H. Edscr, of the Dunedin Electric Telegraph staff, arrived in Nanier on a short holiday visit yesterday.
Mrs. Berryman, ci Westport, who has been on a visit to her mother, Mrs. Hill, of Hastings, left for home this morning.
A cable from Fremantle states that General Sir S. Dorward is a p.-tss.'-nger by the Orvieto. He is proceeding to New Zealand. Bishop AVilliams who has been indisposed at Te Ante, lias sufficiently recovered to be able to leave the house.
Mr. Jackson, manager of the Union Company was entertained by members of the Steamship Owners’ Federation at Sydney, prior to his taking an extended holiday. Air. J. Stack, who is at present an inmate of Nurse Nairn's private hospital. Hastings, was reported to have spent a fair night, and was a little easkr this morning. Mr. G. Wilson, of the AVairoa Electric Telegraph office, who has been en six months exchange with Mr. C. Ferguson, of the Napier staff, left by the Tangaroa this morning to resume his duties in AVairoa
His Excellency Lord Islington has written to the Rev. H. L. Blamires. pastor of the Napier Methodist Church, stating that he has pleasure in giving his patronage to the "Dickens Fail* and Exhibition” to be held at Napier during the week commencing December 4th. Mr. E. W. Christmas, the woilknown Now Zealand artist, is now out in Buenos Ayres cn a painting expedition, and does net expect to return to this country until next ■Jure. He i.~, at present exhibiting seme eighty pictures in Bueii Ayres, and is very pleased --ith b.is results.
Mr. Alf. Dillon, the retiring member for Hawke's Bay. celebrated his 70th birthday yesterday. Ho was in Hastings and did not think of the anniversary until a telegraph messenger handed him the following characteristic message from Sir James Carrol : “Life’s allot.led span and still going strong. Kia Ora to you Dad, and many happy returns of the day.”
