At last night's meeting of the Hi retaunga Dairy Company. in answer to Mr. S. West, the chairman (Mr. F. Cook) stated that when pilfering from the factory was detected some time ago. he had taken action within twelve hours of the thefts being reported. The matter was placed in the lian.ls of the police, but they were not able to obtain sufficient evidence to justify them in bringing anyone to book.

In spite of the inclement weather on the People’s Day at the recent Hawke's Bay Spiing Show, the A. and P. Society have come out with a slight credit balance. Last year the profits from the show amounted to £ 125. but this year an extra sum of £BO was expended on prizes. The gate receipts are £7O less this year, so that after all the society has come out very well.

Building permits to the value of £2485 were issued by the Hastings Borough Council during the month of October, as compared with £.3900 during the corresponding montii last vear.

The contractors. Messrs. Hill Bros., ate making satisfactory progress with the new fire station at Hastings, and it is anticipated that the building will be completed well within the contract time.
