(By “Elevation.’') B Deelv was in good iorni at the Marlborough Racing Club's meeting, being on the back of Poitland Lady, Kcp’aue and St. Felix, all winners, on the first day. None of his mounts were favourite. _ Ladv L’.iev. the winner ot the New Zealand Cup ot 1909. arrived in Wellington from Svdney by the Warrimoo on "Wednesday last. The mare never produced Imi' New Zealand form when racing in Australia, not a single win going"' down to her credit. She will be back in her old quarters at r ordell bynow and her New Zealand (hip e,n-(ra'-mnent "ill in uh [n-obability bo continued. Bobrikoff has put up a fresh record as a weight-carrier by winning the Park Stakes Handicap of 1.1 mile under the crushing burden of 10.13. He is evidently improving with age. The weight tor age races this season that he is engaged in must be a “soft snip provided he keeps sound. Meremere has proved a good bargain for her new owners, Messes. Grenside and O’Neill. Purchasing her a short time back for something like 20gns. they have won twice out of three starts with her, in each ease netting good dividends. To get to the end of the mile race at the Park with 8.2 up in Imin. -Msec, stamps her as a good one. Lord Soult is beginning to show a glimpse of his old form again. At the Park with 7.13 he had Faiinus, Voetgnng, Formulate and Fain behind him. What a luxury 7.13 would have been to him if he was Lord Soult of old. Hickey should he able to get a race out of the old fellow when the going is softer.
Goldlinder's third to Bolniffoff at Napier Park was an improvement on his unplaced performaiu-e to Voetgang at Hastings the week previous. He will have to improve heaps on his latest r-aee to have a hope ol success at Riccarton next month. Bobrikofl, groat horse that he is, should not have been equal to giving Goldfinder 2st. 61li. in a mile ami quarter race if the latter is to have a chance with 8.0 in the Now Zealand Cup. The Park course was not fast, so 2inin. 10 1-osee. was fail' time as far as Goldfinder was cc-ncorned, but a great performance considering his weight as regaids Bohrikoff.
Mrs. Wiggs is evidently not the fast two-year-old her admirers claim for her.' Although Beldame got the much better start in the Juvenile Handicap Mrs. Wiggs could not make up any of the leeway. Haskyne s performance was a much better one, for he had his prospects killed by dwelling on the mark and then was able to beat all but the winner. War Scare, the half-sister to Bobrikoff, is improving, for she rendered her- first placed performance "hen she acted as runner-up to Loch Mabin on Wednesday. The Hon. J. D. Ormond can have no ®-<rets that he has tried Birkenhead's stock at hurdle racing. In every case they have turned out successful. It is not often a horse wins a hurdle race at its first start, but such was the ease with Idmiiism on Wednesday last. The New Zealand jockeys, \\ . Holmes and J. Pine, who'have been riding in Australia for the last few months, were .passengers from Sydney by the Warrimoo, which arrived in Wellington on Wednescla;. last. Portland Lady, "inner ol the Maiden Hack Race at Blenheim on Wednesday, claiins Achilles as her sire. She has her sire’s gift of galloping for sim is reported to have been in very backward condition. The favourite of the rac-*- Indra, who is Hauke « Bay bred, being bv Renown—Searchlight, l-itiis-.li-ed fom-tll.
