THE NAPIER ROBBERY.
AN EMPLOYEE CHARGED WITH THE OFFENCE. REMANDED FOR A WEEK. As a. si'qiiil to the robbery at the Napier Borough Council Chambers on S.-iiyrday morning one of the employees. an assistant clerk, Alfred Robert Donaldson, was this morning brought before (he Magistrate’s Court al Napier. There were several charges laid hv Detective-Sergeant Cassells. (I) That on Oct. 2nd, 1911, at Napier, being a clerk in the employ of the Mayor and Councillors and Burgesses of the Borough of Napier, he d : d commit theft of one cheque for £3, the same being the property of the sa : d Borough, liis employer ; (2) that between August 12tli, 1911, and October the 2nd, 1911, at Napier, he did commit theft of £26 in money, the property of the Chairman and Treasurer of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Football L nion ; (3) that on or about the 29th day of Sejit., 1911. at Napier, he did commit theft of about £5lO in money, the property of the Napier Borough Council, lie being at the time a clerk in the employ of the Mayor and Councillors and Burgesses of the Borough of Napier. Mr. Dolan appeared for the accused, and Inspector Dwyer for the prosecution. The Police asked fd'r a remand on all charges mil il Monday morning next. Mr. Dolan asked for bail.
The Inspector said he would oppose bail. The .E3OO was still undiscovered. and they had had hopes of doing so. If accused was liberated their efforts might be frustrated. Mr. Dolan urged that accused was bailable as a right.
His Worship held fhit accused was bailable at discretion, and lie would consider bail on Monday.
