“LEST HE FORGETS.”
TO THE EDITOR. Sir.--I have little time at ray' disposal but really I must just say a word to your correspondent ‘‘Le;-t We Forget,” before I go, “Lest 7 He i Forgets’’ my visit. I should say to I begin with that 1c evidently wasn’t at the meeting because he says nothing of my speecn or else the speech made him ill by force of the truths which it contained and to which he is evidently unaccustomed. The letter contained no statement of fact. It was couched in the language of a mere cinptyheaded phraser, who is able to use ’ words but has no knowledge of their meaning. To say that ‘‘Mr. Fisher ' rended his chief. Mr. Seddon’ is ludicrous. At my nrst election I said : “I would not take the Government nomination if Mr. Seddon I came to me on al! fours and begged me to accept it” (vide ‘‘Evening
Post.”) So this phraser is wrong there. He says I “was ft Liberal.” Note the <: was." It's true. But that is the very reason I had the pleasure* of having to beat the Government nominee by 12T0 Votgs, because I WAS a Liberal and the Government nominee wasn’t. How could he be 1 To say that “Hereditary transmission surely Is a myth” as your correspondent says, seems absurd else why did Sir Joseph Ward accept a baronetcy. But enough I Why waste words on ! a person who hides behind the hedge when he goes out shooting. Why, a man who does this, if he be a man at all. would barely subsist as a third-rate native hoodwinker. He ought to go about in green blinkers for fear the shining brightness of the Opposit ion policy should blind his one eye.--I am. etc.. F. M. B. FISHER. Hastings. July 18, 1911.
TO THE editor. bir, " Lest we Forget ’’ need" not worry. There are quite a number of people who will not forget Mr. fisher. The. Parliamentary candidate interject or, the ‘National Ass ” interjcctor. and several others will remember the 11 doing ” they got for'many a long day.' These smart gentlemen “caoght a Tartar” in the aide .Wellington M.P., who deserves • a]] the kind things you said about him in your leading article.- I am. etc., “ LOCAL ASS. ’’
