HASTINGS POULTRY SHOW.
It is now eleven years since the Hastings Poultry, Pig eon , and Canary Society came into existence, and at the time of its inauguration if was generally predicted tnat its life would be short, as was the case at that time with practicalß’ every other institution, but such has not been the case. At the meeting for the purpose of forming the society there were five present, but among those there were men with a good deal of experience in running poultry shows .and they, were perfectly satisfied that with proper management there was no cause to anticipate failure. Their optimism was justified as is instanced by the steady progress the * society has made until it has be-1 come the holder of the premier! show in the North Island. This could not have resulted had not the society the sympathy of the business people of Hastings, who have responded willingly every year in providing handsome cups and special prizes for competition. To show the strides it- has made we mention that at the first show there were only a little over 300 entries, and that for the show to be held on Friday and Saturday next there are
1100 entries, or double the number of entries received by any show in the North Island this season. Fanciers are competing from as far south as Timaru, in addition to those residing in Auckland and other parts of this island. All that is required to make the show a financial success is for the people to turn out in large numbers and display to the management that their efforts are appreciated.
