license advocate, occupied the pulpit at the Methodist Church yesterday morning and in the Congregational Church last evening. Sir J. W. Taverner, Victorian Agent-General. has arrived at Copenhagen, and is interviewing agricultural experts and investigating the extension of emigration from the northern countries. Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, will arrive in Napier this evening to preside over a sitting of the Conciliation Council in connection with the drivers' dispute. Air. IL J. Newbigin. lately of the staff of Messrs. Cliff and Co., left Hastings this morning for Wellington. where he takes up a position in the book-binding department of rhe “New Zealand Times.’’ In the examinations recently hold at Otago University, Mr. J. A. Ashet. an old boy of the Napier High School, came first in French, obtaining sb per .-ent. of the maximum marke. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Faulknor. Mrs. Allan McLean (Duart), and Mrs. ().
