PLAYER VERSUS REFEREE.

“I’LL PULL YOUR NOSE.”

DISPUTE AT BILLIARD MATCH Melbourne, July 1. The match of 8000 up between Campbell and Meimnott for the championship of Victoria, and a side wager of £5O, was resumed today. A great deal of partisanship was shown by the spectators at both sessions, nor were the contestants altogether placid. In the evening session referee Shaddock called the scores miscorreetly, a mistake that was instantly rectified by Reginald Campbell, who has charge of the score sheets. At the same moment a spectator directed attention to the mistake, and commented on Shaddock’s inaccuracy. “Order, please, sir,” said Shaddock. “You’ve no right to make these remarks.” “Come,” saicFMemniot to Shaddock. “You’ve been dictating to the public too much.” “I’ll call you to order also, Mr. Memmott,” was Shaddock’s reply. “If you talk to me,” said Memniott, “I’ll pull your nose.”

At the close of the session Memmott said : “Before you leave, the room, gentlemen, I want to direct attention to very unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of some of the spectators. I was nearly 700 in arrears when a fluke by my opponent- was loudly applauded. No good sports would have been guilty of such conduct, and I want to strongly' protest against it.” Another warm exchange then took place between Memmott and Shaddock, whom he accused of displaying partisanship.
