SIR JOSEPH AND HIS TITLE
DISCUSSED AT LYTTELTON HARBOUR BOARD. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, July 5. The baronetcy- conferred on Sir Joseph Ward, was discussed briefly at a meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board to-day. The Chairman, AJr. H. Friedlander. said that on behalf ol the board he hail sent a cable of congratulations to Sir Joseph, and had received a reply’ thanking the )>i>ard. He moved that his action be confirmed. Mr. R. Aloore said that he did rot approve of the issue of hereditary titles to people holding positions such as Sir Joseph Ward held in this country.
Air. J. J. Dougall took up the same view. It would have been all right if Sir Joseph Ward intended to stop in England, but he could see no credit to the country in the decoration.
Air. A. Kaye said that, apart from their individual political views, they must recognise that Sir Joseph Ward had carried out his duties exceedingly’ well. The motion was carried.
