HASTINGS HARMONIC CLUB.
FIRST WINTER CONCERT, 1911. Lovers of good music are looking forward with much interest to the Harmonic Club's concert, which takes place on Wednesday evening next, Alay 31st.
At this the first concert of the 191 1 season, the Club is fortunate indeed in having secured such a galaxy of talent, and we can look forward to hearing a very strong programme on Wednesday next. Mr. Prime, of Napier, who carried off the gold medals for tenor solo work at last Napier competition, has concented to give an item on the first half of the programme, as well as undertaking that very beautiful and difficult tenor solo in “Hiawatha,” namely, “On Away. Awake, Beloved.” Mr. Prime is the possessor of a voice of unusual sweetness, well produced, and he has that which so many timers lack —a soul.
Miss Ava Symonds is also appearing at the Society’s concert., J and in all probability this will be; the last opportunity of hearing this talented young violinist for a long time to come, as she leaves on tour with the Sheffield Choir orchestra shortly after the concert, and on the completion of the New Zealand tour of that body she intends leaving for the Old Country to further hei- studies. That ever welcome and favourite soprano, Miss Large, is down for two songs, and Miss Duff will be giving two of her delightful elocutionary items. The Society is again lucky in securing a duet item by those pleasing singers Mr. and Mrs. V. B. Roach. The subscribing membership list which has been inaugurated this season is now a very large one, and constitutes a record for any musical affair ever held in Hastings.
The Society is therefore assured of a bumper house, and it is a certainty that in a short time the Harmonic concerts will be for subscribers only. Any music lover wishing to become a subscribing member should communicate with Mr. V. R. Roach, the hon. secretary. The fee is half a guinea a year. The Club guarantees tw’o concerts yearly, and supplies three tickets for each concert. Subscribers have also the privilege of reserving their seats before the box plan is opened to the general public.
