HAVELOCK NORTH.
(Own Correspondent.) A sale has been effected of the well-known •’Endsleigh Station,” owned by Thomas Tanner, Esq., to a syndicate, who contemplate cutting up a portion for building sites. It is reported that the immense quantities of shingle that came down Warren’s creek last week are responsible for the abnormal amount of water in the old Ngaruroro river at Havelock bridge. It is stated, on authority, that the petition for a “peeler” is not likely to be granted, as the village does not send enough cases for investigation on Friday. Mr. Dinwiddie lectured before an appreciative audience in the Village Hall on the “Humours of English Poetry” last evening. It is to be hoped that other lectures will be given during the winter. A movement is on foot to resucitate the village library, and a meeting to discuss the matter will be called in due course. A social is being held in the Presbyterian Schoolroom, where good things to eat and hot drinks are being dispensed in honour of the frosty w’eather.
