THE AUSTRALIAN SCHEME. (Received 24, 9.35 a.m.) j Melbourne, May 24. I Mr. Hughes, discussing Mr. Holman's suggestion regarding the Vancouver mail service, declared it was infinitely preferable for the Commonwealth to do these things. There were no insuperable difficulties in the way of arranging such services as Mr. Holman desires to see. Upon arriving at a satisfactory settlement of Australian-Canadian! reciprocity, the shipping scheme will follow naturally, and the only obstacle to the Commonwealth sub-; sidy to a service touching at New; Zealand can then be removed. i
