Mr. and Mrs. T. Quinlivan were passengers by the mail train for Wanganui this morning. Mr. AA'. Darby, of the AA r aipawa branch of the Bank of Australasia, has received notice of his transfer to Tauranga. Mr. Darby is a keen and capable golfer and tennis player and his departure from AA raipawa will be much regretted. Mrs. Arthur Rawson entertained Sir AA’illiam and Lady Russell on Tuesday afternoon at the Ladies* Imperial Club, 17 Dover street, Piccadilly. The guests included Lord and Lady Claud Hamilton, i the Countess of Denbigh, the Hon. ; AAL Maxwell Scott, Mr. and Mrs. ' Louis Pharazyn, Mr. de Colyer, K.C., and Mrs. George Eady. Sergeant Cummings, who has , been for the last two years district ; clerk at the Napier Police Station, | has been promoted to the position !of district sergeant. Sergeant Cumi mings was for two years district i clerk at Invercargill, and has also 1 served four years on the clerical staff at AVellington. He was pro- ; moted to the rank of sergeant on 1 coining to Napier. ; Mr. Alexander Mclntyre, of ; Puketitiri, arrived in Napier yes--1 terday afternoon, and left for the ! South by the express train this ! morning. The object of his trip is tto attend the celebration, to be ' held at Lawrence on Saturday evening, of the discovery of gold in ; Gabriel’s Gully in May, 1861. Mr. • Mclntyre was among those who j took part in the famous rush, and was for some time in the diggings during the exciting times that followed.
