; KILLED ON THE LINE. j [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] i Wellington, May 13. | Mr. George D. Cronin, a master ; coachbuilder, a resident of Petone i tor many years, was killed on the ■ railway line at Melting’s siding. I between Lower Hutt and Belmont, I this morning, presumably by the j early train from Upper Hutt? The j body was terribly mangled. The i inquest was opened, but adjourned ' after some evidence had been i taken. The deceased was a wid- : ovrer, and 48 years of age.
Later. Evidence was given at the inquest on George Cronin which showed that the deceased left for Dannevirke last Tuesday, with the intention of returning last night or to-day. He had been suffering from pains m the head. No one saw the accident but a boy, w’ho was standing on the platform of the last carriage of the first train from Lpper Hutt, saw portions of a human body’ on the line, and reported the matter to the train people. The inquest will be resumed on Monday, when the evidence of P. H. Jane, the enginedrivei, and othei*s will be taken, DEATH FROM HEART DISEASE r> Dunedin, May 13. John Roberts, aged 64 years, succumbed to heart disease this morning while employed in the Mosgiel Voo len Mills. He has a grown-up family’ at Roslyn.
