The Maiden Plate has a number engaged who have yet to make their debut on the racecourse but of those that have raced Merrimac formulate and Mamtou have shown most promise. The Nursery Handicap will b.- a hard race to win. Royal Scotch, who raced tor the first time at the -hristchurch Easter meeting, has quickly won his way to the ton of the tree, and with ail his weiuh'r he will take no end of healing. Bootle Khamsin aud Behai: are a nk-Jv trio to keep the top weight verv busy. The Porangahau Handicap l.a, hiled with 14 acceptors, ami ar the! head is the flying Bobrikoff. It is I hardly to be expected that he wifi I be at his best, for he will be sure I to want a race or two to sharpen! him up. Boanerges is well just i now, and form is the best to fol- ! r *?u n,hy is back to the pace he showed as a two-year-old and will be hard to beat. Lower down the list we find Vibration and Birkline, a pair with I credentials for a race of this kind. ! Ihe Hawkes Bay Gup has drawn! 11 acceptors and a fine lot tliev are too. bort M illiani appears as an' acceptor m the Autumn Handicap { also, and it is more than likely he! will start in that event Merri ! vonia and Te Puia have both been! running consistently and will not I lack anything on the score of cm- ! dition. Cheddah and Vice-Ad-i rairah both with 8.0. will be a hard! pair to dispose of. and appear to l hold those above them in the handicap safe. Bliss will be sure to' make the pace warm, and whether: she will be able to run the distame right out remains to be seen. ; •She has shown she can get to the. end of a mile and a furlong in : really good style. The former finishing ;three lengths ahead of Composed, about rhe same distance separating second and third horses. !
