HAWKE’S BAY COUNTY COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MONTHLY .MEETING.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the H.B. County Council was held this morning. Present: T. Mason Chambers (chairman), Crs. Rathie. Crosse. Bennett. Stead. Shrimpton. and Donnelly.
The Chairman reported that he proposed to call a meeting of committee to discuss the range question. There was nothing necessitating the council to reclaim control of Farndon Park. Overseers have been instructed to take action against those infringing the heavy traffic by-law. The bridge carpenter should be under the orders of the overseer in whose district be is working. Mr. Kennedy was going into the question of the Soutliland drain. Saturday was fixed for meeting the sawmillers re timber traffic. With regard to the reserve fund which it was proposed to set up. he thought the Bank did not treat the country quite fairly. He thought that the council conference should be asked to pass a resolution to place before the Bank. At present they might have a credit balance in one account and debit, in another, but the Bank would not let them set off an account in credit against overdrafts. A resolution passed by the council conference would bear weight with the Bank and an alteration might be accepted. He moved in this direction and the motion was carried.
Cr. Clark’s action in getting a gravel pit fixed for a sum of £1 was approved. Overseers were given power to execute urgent work up to £'s without communicating with the office.
The list of works put in hand by the chairman during the month was read and approved. W. Richmond wrote wanting a road metalled. The overseer to report upon the matter and the Chairman and Cr. Shrimpton to act if urgent. Rates were suggested at follows: -Clive j|d. F.rewhon I'd, Havelock ’.d. Heretaunga ®d. Maraekakaho rd. Meanee ?<|. Okawa pl, Petane 3d. Puketapu 3d.
